Supreme Court bars land transfer, new lease in Sindh
KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) Wednesday issued directives banning new lease and transfer of lands in Sindh.
Heading the SC’s five-judge bench hearing Karachi law and order case at Karachi Registry, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali directed the Sindh’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari to set up a cell to liaise among the law-enforcement agencies in the province.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked that police and Rangers should be accountable for a recent wave of bombings in the city.
The court queried, “If all the record of government lands was torched following the martyrdom of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, then how the lands were transferred?”
Senior member Board of Revenue Shazar Shamoon told the journalists that the court called entire record of lands.
