Child is allergic to cow’s milk
Allergy to cow’s milk protein is a condition that affects nearly 8% of infants and toddlers. This is the fourth food allergy in children after the egg, peanuts and fish.
Allergy to cow’s milk is a reaction of the body of your child’s face to the proteins in cow’s milk. It sometimes manifests at birth, but in principle between the fifteenth day of the sixth month and usually after several bottles under the rule of allergy: sensitization and allergy.
In some cases, children may have been sensitized by milk proteins without the knowledge of their parents (bottle “complementary” to motherhood, the presence of milk proteins in cosmetics, etc.).
The baby has digestive problems (vomiting, stomach pain, regurgitation etc.) bowel dysfunction (sudden diarrhea or loose stools …), skin problems (atopic eczema).
In the most severe cases, anaphylactic shock can require medical care in extreme urgency (difficulty breathing with choking).
HOW TO CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS?
After assessing the risk with your allergic family history and conducted the clinical examination of your baby, the pediatrician prescribe additional tests.
Blood test, which only works for immediate allergy and skin tests (immediate and delayed) to the allergist. He may have also used a challenge test at the hospital.
HOW TO TREAT ALLERGY TO COW’S MILK?
If you are breastfeeding: you should avoid consuming any dairy products.
If you are not breastfeeding: you must give a hydrolyzed milk substitute (not a hypoallergenic milk HA). First-line casein hydrolyzate is recommended. It is not recommended that soy (presence of phytoestrogens) or worse milks very allergenic nuts (almond milk …). Unhydrolyzed milk of other mammals are also not recommended due to numerous cross allergies.
WHEN TO START FOOD DIVERSIFICATION?
It can be considered to 6 months of age your child. Introduce one new food at a time per week, with a spoon in order to observe how the immune system reacts. You can start with the vegetables, stewed fruits, meat (lamb, rabbit).
Foods to avoid up to one year are egg, peanuts or fish.
Children recover from this allergy in the first four years of their lives.

If in doubt about a cow’s milk allergy, talk to your pediatrician or your doctor. If they do not take you seriously and doubts persist, you can go see an allergist: without being addressed by them, you will still be paid normally.
