Finnish male nurse raped 27 elderly patients

A 24-year-old male nurse was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in prison for the rape of 27 elderly patients, including a centennial person, said the Finnish news agency STT.

STT reported that victims residing in a nursing home, whose location was kept secret, were aged 74 to 100 years.

Tried by the court in the Pirkanmaa region, the man risked 12 years in prison, but his sentence was shorter because he has fully cooperated in the investigation on facts “that took place without witnesses and victims were not able to report because of their health status.”

These victims all suffered from senility and some were disabled.

The accused had asked for clemency, with judicial supervision and community service. But considering that he had acted “systematically” the court sent to prison and was also ordered to compensate the victims for a total of 18,000 euros.

To protect the identity of the latter, the court did not indicate where the rapes took place.
