Harvest Tradings dissatisfied with role of PHDEC for promotion of fruit exports
ISLAMABAD, Jan 31 (INP): Director Harvest Tradings, Ahmad Jawad has expressed dissatisfaction over the working and procedure of Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) to promote exports of fruits.
Talking to INP on Sunday, Ahmed Jawad said that few days back, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir during question hour in the National Assembly (NA) had stated that PHDEC has been established to promote horticulture exports but no development for the purpose it has been constituted was witnessed.
He said that despite constitution of PHDEC, marketing affairs of the horticulture exports were being run by TDAP which was surprising.
He said that research in horticulture sector was being carried out by the universities and research institutes, food safety and phytosanitary measure looked after by MNFSR and policies of horticulture sector was given to provinces after 18th amendment.
He said we have a lot of potential in KPK and Giligit Baltistan (GB) in the form of unique fruits and vegetables which needs to be tapped for the international markets apart from Kinnow and mangoes.
Jawad said that the government must redefine the role of PHDEC and give proper mandate to this organization to establish value chains in KPK and GB which were ignored in past in order to increase the horticulture exports. If policy makers understand the importance of horticulture sector it can play magically role for the Pakistan economy, he added.
