Nine dead, scores injured in suicide attack on security forces’ vehicle in Quetta


QUETTA: At least nine people including Frontier Corps (FC) personnel died and about four dozen others injured in suicide attack on a security forces’ vehicle near the premises of the heavily guarded Quetta district courts on Saturday.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Imtiaz Shah said that a suicide bomber riding bicycle blew himself up near a vehicle belonging to the FC. He said that 10 to 12 kilogram explosive material was used in the blast.

The blast destroyed the security forces’ vehicle and shattered the window panes of nearby buildings resulting in death of nine people and injuring about 45 others.

Rescue and emergency teams reached the blast site. An emergency was declared in all nearby hospitals, while the wounded have been shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta where condition of several wounded people was stated to be serious.
It is worth to mention that traffic in the area where blast took place is usually jam-packed with public as market, district and sessions courts and a number of government building situated in the vicinity.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chairman PTI Imran Khan, Ameer JI and leaders of other political and religious parties have condemned the blast.

In accordance with a statement released from PM House, the prime minster while strongly condemning the attack, directed authorities to give best medical treatment to the injured. He also directed law enforcement officials to hunt down the culprits responsible for this terror attack.

President Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Asif Ali Zardari condemned in strong terms the attacks near a security vehicle in Quetta resulting in death of eight people and leaving dozens other injured.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Asif Zardari said that such acts of terrorism will further strengthen the nations and security forces resolve to fight the militants. He called for forging unity so that this coward and brutal enemies are defeated once for all. He paid tributes to the brave security personnel who are offering extreme sacrifices so that our men, women and children can live in peace.

The PPPP President also prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and early recovery of injured. He also expressed sympathies to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Baluchistan Sanaullah Zehri has announced rupees one million and half million for those who lost live and wounded in the blast respectively.
