SC dismisses Karsaz blast case, declares it ineffective

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the Karsaz bomb attack case after declaring it ineffective.

The five-member bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Saqib Nisar, Justice Aijaz Afzal, Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Manzoor Ahmed heard the case and disposed it off on the basis of becoming ineffective and infructuous.

Former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken a suo moto notice of the bomb attack on the convoy of former prime minister and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto near Karsaz in Karachi, in which at least 150 persons had lost their lives and hundreds were injured on October 18, 2007. She was leading a welcome procession on her return to the country from exile.

Benazir Bhutto had survived the attack and continued the campaign for elections until she was martyred on December 27 the same year in another terrorist attack in Rawalpindi after addressing a public gathering.
