One dead, four injured in Karachi factory inferno
KARACHI: One person was scorched to death and four others sustained severe injuries when fire engulfed a scrap factory in Haroonabad area here on Tuesday.
The workers initially tried to control the fire under self help as a result of which one was burnt to death.
On getting information of the incident, primarily the scene but on witnessing the intensity of the blaze two additional fire tenders were called in.
The fire brigade vehicles reached the incident site and overcome the fire after struggling for an hour.
Fire brigade officials said that scrap was being melted in the factory in which a cylinder was also present which exploded and kindled the inferno.
Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) also reached the scene and gathered proofs. BDS officials were of the view that the blast was not caused by cylinder however; various spray boxes containing gas were put into the furnace which triggered the blast and stimulated the blaze.
The dead was identified as Mehtab whereas the injured include Allah Baksh, Imam Baksh and Munawwar. They were shifted to burn ward of hospital for treatment.
