Under Mission Green Islamabad: Comprehensive tree Plantations to be launched
ISLAMABAD: Under the Mission Green Islamabad, a comprehensive tree plantation drive would be launched in the federal capital by involving all segments of society.
It was decided during the 2nd meeting of core committee of Mission Green Islamabad held at office of Chambers of Commerce and Industries here on Thursday.
During the meeting, it was apprised that in Pakistan, forest cover is decreasing at an alarming rate. About 4.5% of Pakistan‘s land is comprised of forests, which is far below the desirable standard of 30% forest cover of a country.
The members showed deep concern over the fact that capital city of Islamabad which was developed on the concept of green city is fast becoming victim of environmental issues hence losing its green character. The meeting also decided to encourage the planting of indigenous tress and proper monitoring for survival and growth of plants. The members of the core committee have showed satisfaction over encouraging response from all segments of the society in tree plantations drive.
The committee approved to introduce Green award in order to recognise the individual and collective contributions in tree plantation drive on annual basis. Patron of Mission Green Islamabad Zafar Iqbal Bakhtawari extended thanks to members of the core committee for undertaking collaborative efforts in making Islamabad, green city on voluntary basis.
