Security and hospitality were very good: Pak manager rubbishes groupism in the team
MUMBAI: Pakistan team manager Intikhab Alam has rubbished the talks of groupism in the team.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Delhi airport on Saturday evening, the team manager says, “it is rubbish to believe such talks…There is no groupism in the team. Whenever our team loses the matches, such talks surface but I can vouch that the team harmony is at the best. Yes, the team is disappointed on losing the important matches but that is a part and parcel of the game”.
Shahid Afridi’s team left for Lahore (via Chandigardh-Delhi (Air India flight) and Delhi-Dubai-Lahore (Emirates flight) on Saturday after losing their crucial match against Australia on Friday.
The ICC policy does not allow the losing team to stay till the Semi-Finals and Finals.
“Our visas are granted till the end of the tournament but no player is staying back”, Alam added.
“Those players who wished to stay back could have done so at their own expenses and risk”.
“Even the foreign staff members (Grant Flower, Grant Luden etc.) are returning to Pakistan. It is not known how long they would stay in Pakistan or whether they would go on holidays after this tournament…”.
“The security and hospitality was very good”, Alam added.
“Afridi has not announced his retirement (yet)”, Alam insisted.
He may do so on his return to his country.
Interestingly, Afridi didn’t wish to talk about his retirement plan in India where he claims to have received more love and affection than Pakistan.
“He will discuss with his family members and the PCB officials before making such decision public”, Awais Afridi, the manager and cousin of the captain, said exclusively from Pakistan.
