World No Tobacco Day observed in Pakistan
LAHORE: World No Tobacco Day was observed throughout Pakistan on Tuesday 31st May 2016. On the day, numerous awareness activities were organized by medical colleges, hospitals, schools, universities and by numerous non-governmental organizations all across Pakistan.
One of the World No Tobacco Day awareness walks was held at Mall Road Lahore by APPNA chest Initiative in collaboration with Surgical Oncology Society. Many doctors, students and civil society members participated in the activity and aware people of the harmful effects of smoking and second-hand smoke. Other than this, Ghulab Devi Chest Hospital, Services Hospital, General Hospital also observed the day. Also, numerous Non-governmental organizations and societies organized different anti-smoking activities.
APPNA (Association of Pakistani Physicians descent of North America) Chest Initiative has provided posters, brochures, and animated videos to make the public aware of the harmful effects of smoking and second-hand smoke.
American based Pakistani doctors under the banner of the APPNA organization have appealed to the masses to refrain from tobacco smoking since it harms nearly every organ of the body. There are almost 70 or more chemicals present in cigarette smoke cause cancer, asthma, and atherosclerosis, leading to heart attacks and strokes and multiple other diseases.
