PESHAWAR: The member of the TransAction Alliance and Civil Society organized a Vigil inside Lady Reading Hospital with the title “Get Well Soon Lady Reading Hospital” to record their protest and raise their concerns on the discrimination of LRH administration with the patients on the basis of their gender identity and expression.  Alisha a Transgender person and transgender right activists were shot in multiple times in Peshawar and denied quality care in LRH by her gender identity.

The Participants lighted the candles to reject the eye was actions of the lady reading hospital and rejected the termination of some doctors while saving the real culprits which includes Dr. Shabudiin and Director Hospital Col.Rtd Hamid. The participants demanded the resignation of Chairman Nowherwan Barki of the Lady Reading Hospital.

The transgender Alliances remained the LRH Administration that under THE KHYBERPAKHTUNKHWA INJURED PERSONS AND EMERGENCY (MEDICAL AID) ACT, 2014 that when an injured person is brought to a hospital, he shall be provided medical aid and without delay, on a priority basis, over all other medico-legal formalities.Under section 9 of this Act the person, who on a humanitarian basis, in particular in traffic accident cases, brings an injured person to a hospital shall not be harassed and shall be shown due respect and acknowledged for helping the injured person.

Farzana Jan President of the TransAtion Alliance on this occasion said that “Discrimination based on gender (or sex) is a common civil rights violation that takes many forms, including denial to basic health care services. The administration of Lady Reading Hospital must know that access to basic health care is a right, not a privilege.”

Qamar Naseem a human rights activist while sharing his views said that “ The human right to health means that everyone has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, which includes access to all medical services, sanitation, adequate food, decent housing, healthy working conditions, and a clean environment, The Govt, and its departments are failing to ensure the rights of the transgender community because they are not anywhere on the development agenda of Pakistan.”

Zar Ali Khan of FATA Commission of Human Rights said  “We demand and ask for a medical and administrative audit of the Lady Reading Hospital. The administration is running the hospital like private property. Many trans people still are denied healthcare because of their identity. Transgender people face roadblocks in accessing healthcare, we need sustained investment in the field of transgender health, so all of us can receive quality care for our needs in an open and respectful environment.

Taimur Kamal of Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network said “ the civil society stands with the Transgender activist and will play its role in  Creating Equal Access to Quality Health Care for Transgender. The Govt needs to wake up. The Transphobia and violence against transgender in access to services is unacceptable in the health care system.
