ODA Press tour with Consulate General and JICA

Long-lasting relations of Japan with Pakistan are vital in the community assistance of projects

Enlighten Pakistani people about contribution of Japan towards improving Pakistan’s development in various areas

KARACHI: Consulate General of Japan regarding Japanese Government Assisted Projects and its initiatives in Pakistan organized media/Press tour by Development Assistance (ODA) in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Talking to The Lahore Times, Consul of Japan Atsushi Murata along with Researcher Yoko Watanabe said that the objective of press tour was to enlighten the Pakistani people about the contribution of Japan towards improving Pakistan’s development in various areas.

He said Japan government is playing its vital role in various sectors and key projects launched since long to build a strong and positive role in the development. The members of Consulate General and JICA along with journalists visited project sites including Bin Qasim Thermal Power Station Unit 5-6, and one water filtration plant provided to Al-Khidmat Foundation by the Consulate General of Japan under the Grant Assistance for the Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP) and Pak Suzuki Company.

During the visit at Pak Suzuki head of the Public Relations and Spokesperson Shafiq Ahmed Shaikh received the delegation for visit factory and briefed about details of the success of Japan assisted projects, particularly Pak Suzuki and its achievements in the transport and communication since its inception.

Speaking to the media in a briefing, Chief Executive and Managing Director Pak Suzuki Hirofumi Nagao expressed long lasting relationship with Pakistan and said that the Japans’ Suzuki products preferred by the people of Pakistan.

He also hoped that Pak Suzuki will play its key role in the community as well serving under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) related activities and services in the health, education particularly he added.

Earlier, JICA experts and team leader Imran Ali briefed about the background, purpose and significance of the Thermal Power Station and its units 1, 2, 5 and 6 out of six power generation units are Japan-made plants, including two units (Unit 5 & 6) provided by Japan’s ODA projects.

According to him, unit 6 has been contributing to add generating capacity for 210MW annually which significantly improves the power supply in the area. The unit contributes 10.5% of the total power generation by K-electric he told.

While, delegation visits to Filtration Plant at Zaffer Town by Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF), they expressed satisfaction and appreciated Government of Japan for the provision of seven water filtration plants. The Government of Japan provided AKF with US$ 90.952 (approximately Rs7.7 million) in July 2010. These filtration plants greatly benefit the population that have difficulty in accessing safe drinking water and annually more than 20,000 residents receiving benefit.
