COVID-19: Pakistan reports 5,011 confirmed coronavirus cases

LAHORE: The confirmed coronavirus infected people in Pakistan on Saturday surged to 5,011 whereas the 86 died from the deadly COVID-19 virus, according to the National Command and Operation Centre’s latest statistics.

According to the details, more than 300 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across the country during the last 24 hours. So far 762 patients have recovered from the deadly virus which shows the sign of 15% infected people are on the road to recovery.

Twenty more patient have been died on Saturday due to novel coronavirus.

According to the breakup of the cases province-wise Punjab tops the list with 2,414 cases, while Sindh has recorded 1,318 coronavirus cases so far.

Some 697 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 220 in Balochistan, 215 in Gilgit Baltistan, 113 in Islamabad and 34 confirmed coronavirus infected people were reported in Azad Kashmir.

There is still a hope that Pakistan will be one of the few early countries to overcome coronavirus pandemic, said the Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.

Ventilators repaired

Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday said that the ministry’s initiative to repair broken ventilators across Pakistan has successfully fixed 163 units thus far. Fawad Chaudhry said that many government hospitals are as yet ill-equipped with the basic knowledge of how to operate ventilators. He said that close to 1,000 ventilators are currently ruled redundant and unusable across the country.
