25-year-old mother Casey Anthony to stand murder trial of her 2-year-old daughter

A jury has been sworn in while in the long-anticipated murder trial of Casey Anthony that was originally scheduled for May 17, 2011 but begins on Tuesday, May 24 instead. The 25-year-old mother is to stand trial in connection with her daughter’s death; Caylee died on June 16, 2008 while mother was indicted on 14 October the same year.

The American toddler aged 2 years, went missing mysteriously in the month of June, 2008 and some five months later, the child was subsequently discovered, dead. The incident attracted national media attention and the then 22-year-old mother Casey Anthony, the only suspect in the death case, was sent to jail while the jury selection commenced May 9.

Casey’s camp including family and defense team, still maintain that she had nothing to do with the murder and that she had not harmed her own daughter. Casey Anthony, now 25, faces first-degree murder charge along with death penalty; if convicted in the case of killing Caylee Marie Anthony. In addition, aggravated manslaughter involving a child, aggravated child abuse and false information conveyed to law enforcement charges are also imposed on Casey.

According to a Melbourne attorney, Anthony will not end up on the death row in Florida; Patrick Barbary is of the opinion that prosecutors would never find Casey guilty of said first-degree murder. In December 2008, a month after the child was reported missing; her remains were discovered dumped in a wooded area close to family’s house.

Patrick Barbary further added that since the prosecutors are not aware of exact ’cause of death’ of Caylee; they would find it difficult to convince the jury. The body of the toddler was found, added Barbary, and while the mother was already in jail thus jury would also ask whether how Casey would be accused of killing the child.
