Water crisis in Sindh dangerous for agriculture production: Altaf Memon

HYDERABAD, May 07, 2022: President Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry Altaf Memon has expressed concern regarding the acute shortage of irrigation water in Sindh adding that such a situation could lead to a severe crisis for agriculture production with ultimate danger to the agriculture economy. He said Sindh was facing 53% irrigation water due to which the crops of rice, sugarcane, mangoes, and others were getting destruction due to an acute shortage of water.

In a statement issued here, he said Pakistan was known as an agricultural country in the whole world and its economy depends almost on agriculture. He said in the whole world governments provide every facility to agriculturists but in Pakistan agricultural traders and peasants were facing a shortage of water. He expressed indignation that the Pakistan government was not serious on this issue as it has failed to formulate any police on the shortage of irrigation water.

HCSTSI president Altaf Memon has made appeal to prime minister Shahbaz Sharif, water resources minister Syed Khurshid Shah, Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Sindh and concerned minister Jam Khan Shoro to take notice of acute shortage of water in Sindh to bring an end to shortage of irrigation water so that it may not affect agriculture production of Sindh.
