AIOU-NBF join hands to promote books’ culture


ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and National Book Foundation (NBF) will work together for promoting books’ publication and reading culture so as to provide academic input to the students in their educational pursuits.  
 
The AIOU and NBF could work as sister organization for publication of academic books and allied material, said Managing Direction NBF Dr. Inamul Haq Javed while speaking here Thursday at the University’s academic complex. The event was the first one in connection with new series ‘ Mulaqat’ started by the University to interact with eminent personalities.
 
Dr. Inam said the AIOU’s academicians could act as their leading partner for publication of books of students’ interest and promoting research and innovative study. He said the University’s academicians will be welcomed to seek NBF’s membership and avail its research facility. He assured that the students of AIOU will also be facilitated in doing research work at M.Phil and Ph.D level.   
 
Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui appreciated the role of NBF and personal contribution of Dr. Inamul Haq Javed in promoting books’ reading culture and literary activities. He underlined the need of strengthening peoples’ links with the books in order to promote knowledge-based society and meeting the new challenges in the educational field. He said the books served as best source for creative and innovative learning.
 
Dr. Inam who had earlier served as chairman department of Pakistani languages in AIOU further said he was looking bright prospects of increasing trend of books’ publication, as number of editions of knowledge-based and literary books of eminent authors increased since he joined the institution. Being the author of about 50 books, he received very encouraging response, he added.
 
He noted that the AIOU’s contribution in promoting Pakistani languages particularly at the higher educational level had been outstanding. It was his pride that his personal efforts of introducing M-Phil level languages’ program in the University were highly successful.
 
The event, arranged by the department of Pakistani languages was also addressed its chairman Dr. Mohsina Naqvi, Prof. Abdullah Jan Abid and Dr Abdul Wajid Tabsam. They lauded Dr. Javed’s achievements in the educational and literary field.
