MUMBAI: Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit is returning to television as a host after a gap of 24 years.
According to Indian media, Dixit will front the upcoming quiz show ‘Kon Honar Crorepati‘ — the Marathi-language version of the hugely popular quiz format ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, hosted for years by Amitabh Bachchan.
The show’s producers released the first promo on Tuesday, and it leans hard into regional identity. Dixit appears in traditional Maharashtrian styling: a green-and-gold saree, classical gold jewellery, and a Maharashtrian-style *nath* (nose ring).
Introducing the show in Marathi, Dixit says in the promo that what has never happened before is about to happen — that a new conversation will begin in households across Maharashtra, because the game is about to change. She then announces that she is bringing ‘Kon Honar Crorepati’ to viewers, and that it is coming soon.
The actor also shared the promo on her Instagram account. In the caption she wrote that she is excited to begin this journey and to bring audiences a game show that has always revolved around knowledge, dreams and possibility.
The casting is a notable one: regional-language adaptations of the KBC format have historically been anchored by male superstars, and Dixit’s Marathi-language return doubles as a homecoming to the industry’s regional roots.
