MUMBAI: P.S. Narsimha, the top Supreme Court lawyer has been approached by Delhi police to fight their legal battle against all 42, including accused players, in the IPL spot-fixing case. This was revealed by S.N. Srivastava, the special police commissioner (special cell).
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Delhi, he says, “P.S. Narsimha will be assisted by battery of other advocates. The case filed in Delhi High Court may commence within a fortnight”.
Later, confirming the news, P. S. Narsimha, speaking exclusively again, said, “I have been approached by Delhi police and depending upon my availability, will take up the case”.
Interestingly, Narsimha is a close relative of one of the former India batsmen. “Please don’t reveal the identity of the player as it will lead to the misunderstanding of the public”, he appealed.
“No, no, I will not seek the relative-player’s feedback for the case. No way it is required. I have fought many similar cases and will fight out this case too. I am in this profession since 1988”, he added.
Narsimha was added to the Supreme Court lawyers’ category on 14th October, 2008. He has also been an Additional Solicitor General (Supreme Court) from 07-06-2014.
The case in the Delhi High Court has been filed by the Public Prosecutor Varun Goswami. “There are more than 20 grounds of appeal against the accused”, the source close to the PP says.
