Death toll reaches 13 in fatal Sheikhupura road mishap
SHEIKHUPURA: Death toll in an LPG tanker-car collision near Sheikhupura has reached thirteen Thursday.
The deadly road mishap that occurred on Wednesday morning has claimed thirteen lives so far while more than 20 are reportedly injured.
Sub-inspector Zahid Khan has geared up the investigation into the matter after registering case against gas tanker’s driver and owner at Mananwala police station.
Earlier, a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rammed into a car and the gas leakage fuelled an inferno engulfing the vehicle and nearby buildings near Sheikhupura’s Mananwala.
Two other school rickshaws at the scene of accident also caught fire, injuring some schoolchildren also.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the driver of the tanker lost control while overtaking a vehicle near a u-turn.
Accidents are common on roads across Pakistan due to bad road infrastructure and rampant disregard of traffic laws.
Over 9,000 road accidents are reported to the police every year, killing on average around 5,000 people, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
