Kaushik seemed nervous while playing his first big match, says his mentor

MUMBAI: No coach has ever tried to get Shivil Kaushik’s unique bowling action changed and this is fortunately the bowler’s plus point, according to his mentor Anutosh Poll.

The 20-year-old slow left-arm bowler played his very first big IPL match for Gujarat Lions team against Rising Pine Supergiants at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

At the time of delivery, his head points upward and the back leg lifts up, the ball comes from the back of the hand.

“Exactly like Paul Adams,” the TV commentator Pommie Mbangwa said.

“Shivil Kaushik. Wow!! Wouldn’t have thought we’d ever see that action again (after Adams)”, the Zimbawean Pommie Mbangwa tweeted.

“Different coaches try to get the bowler or batsman’s grip changed but this has not happened in this bowler’s case. The coaches have left him as it is”, Poll added.

The bowler came close to his first big wicket of Steve Smith. Sadly it was a “no ball”.

“It would have been a very big wicket of Australian captain. But luck was not on his side”, Anutosh adds.

“He seemed to be nervous because of his big match and ran out of luck in the initial overs”, the mentor added further.

“Kaushik has never met Paul Adams”, Poll informs.

Anutosh would have been in Pune to see Kaushik play to-day but because of the fracture had to remain in his house in Bangalore”.
