KU Student bags 3 major awards in 1st Ziauddin Film Festival


KARACHI: Ziauddin Media School (ICMS), part of Ziauddin University organized the “1st Ziauddin Film Festival at its campus.

The 1ST Ziauddin Film Festival was held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Abul Hasan Jafarey Auditorium, Ziauddin University, Clifton campus.

The objective of the film festival was to give student filmmakers the opportunity to display and promote their work.

The 1st Ziauddin Film festival was aimed at energizing and encouraging student filmmakers by giving them a safe, practical, and desirable forum to exhibit their hard work and creativity.

The CEO of Nueplex Cinemas, Jamil Baig, CEO of HTV, Faizan S Syed and famous actors Atiqa Odho, Behroze Sabzwari, Na-Maloom Afraad movie famed Irfan Motiwala and famous social media comedians 3 Idiotz (Hammad, Kashan & Faisal) were invited as the Chief Guests for the day and distributed awards among winners.

On the occasion Raza Abbas, Director Students Affairs, Ms. Tooba Bukhari Head of Marketing and Amir Shehzad, Head of PR were also present.

Shortfilms and Docmentaries were screened in the festival from five distinguished film schools i.e. Karachi University, Indus Valley (IVS), IoBM, Iqra University and Ziauddin Media School (ICMS).

Lyari Successors by Haseeb Halai got the ‘Best Documentary’ award and 15000 PKR cash prize. Short film ‘Naira’ by Shanum Sohail of Karachi University was awarded the ‘Best Screenplay’ award and 10000 PKR cash prize. Short film ‘The Light and The Little Girl’ by Ahsan Mannan of Iqra University got the Best Cinematography award and 10000 PKR cash prize. The idiot box by Syed Arbab Hussain of Karachi University was awarded the ‘Best Short film’ award and 15000 PKR cash prize. The Idiot Box also got Best edit and Best Direction awards and was awarded 10000 PKR cash prize each.

“This event is first of its kind and I am astonished that the students of Ziauddin Media School (ICMS) have not only pulled it off but made it successful. They make me feel proud standing here as the Director of Ziauddin Media School (ICMS). I see not only their future to be bright but of the students who put their dedicated work to display at today’s event. This film festival opens door for many opportunities to media student out there. I hope to see another one film festival or organized at a bigger scale by ICMS students next year”, said, Faizan S. Syed CEO of HTV.
