LAHORE: Senior Pakistani actress Javeria Saud has said her own children push back every time she edits a filter onto her photographs — and that they have gone as far as deleting the apps from her phone.

Speaking in a recent interview covering showbiz and wider social themes, the actress said young women today are heavily influenced by Bollywood stars such as Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Kajol, and work hard to reshape their own faces to match those images.

Turning to her own household, Javeria said her children argue with her whenever she applies a filter and ask her to stop. She recalled them questioning her directly — asking whether she was not satisfied with the way God had made her, and why she felt the need to alter her appearance at all.

The actress admitted with some humour that the children have repeatedly removed filter applications from her mobile phone, and that she quietly reinstalls them afterwards.

Her remarks land in the middle of an ongoing conversation in Pakistan about beauty filters, self-image and the pressure social media places on young users — a debate in which several television personalities have recently taken public positions.
