India has cancelled talks with Pakistan on a petty issue of Pakistan’s Adviser’s meeting with Hurriyat leaders. Kashmiri leaders are part of any resolution of the dispute of Kashmir. It is imperative to know their view point. This is a frivolous excuse. No condition for the dialogue is acceptable. Without discussing Kashmir issue the talks will be futile.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz held a press conference to explain Pakistan’s stance over Kashmir. It appears that he was not clear about the cancellation of talks. He was ready to go to India for the Parleys as scheduled earlier. He said we will wait for Indian response. Sushmita the Indian foreign secretary responded that Pakistan must honor and limit to the basic agenda. Only the issue of terrorism will be discussed.
Foreign office is evaluating Indian response. I do not think these talks will be held in the present circumstances. The two sides are poles apart on the issues to be debated at the meeting. Obviously India is backing out of the meeting on flimsy ground. Best of luck Mr. Sartaj Aziz next time.
