196 Crashes in a Single Day: Lahore’s Roads Claim Two More Lives

LAHORE: The city’s grim road-safety ledger added another entry on Monday. Rescue authorities reported 196 traffic accidents across Lahore in the preceding 24 hours.

Two people were killed and 253 injured in those crashes. Of the injured, 104 were in serious enough condition to be shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while 149 with minor injuries were treated at the scene by rescue teams.

Rescue officials attributed the accidents squarely to violations of traffic rules — a diagnosis that has become depressingly routine in the daily bulletins.

The numbers underline a pattern that road-safety campaigners in the city have flagged repeatedly: a daily accident count in the high hundreds, driven overwhelmingly by two-wheelers, speeding and lane discipline failures on the city’s arterial roads.
