LAHORE: Anger among the city’s legal fraternity boiled over at a joint general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar and the Lahore Bar, called over the alleged torture of lawyers at the Qila Gujjar Singh police station.

The session was chaired jointly by Lahore High Court Bar President Babar Murtaza and Lahore Bar President Irfan Hayat Bajwa, and attended by Lahore High Court Bar Secretary Qasim Ejaz Samra along with other office-bearers and members of the bar.

Participants condemned both the alleged violence and the conduct of police, demanding the immediate dismissal of the officials involved and the registration of criminal cases against them. Lawyers also called for action against police officers Moazzam Ilyas Cheema and Kashif.

The meeting gave police a 24-hour deadline to register a case under the Lawyers Protection Act. Bar leaders warned that if their demands are not met within that window, they will stage a full-scale protest outside the office of the IG Punjab.
