LAHORE: Pakistan Independence Day is close, and Lahore has dressed for the occasion. The city’s historic buildings have been decorated and illuminated ahead of 14 August.

In a striking departure from the usual green-and-white, the flags of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have been lit up together across the city’s landmarks — a visual nod to the trilateral defence agreement signed in Makkah. LED screens have also been installed along Charing Cross on The Mall and other major thoroughfares.

Officials described the three-flag display as a distinctive expression of Pak-Saudi-Turkish friendship. Town Hall, the GPO building, WAPDA House and Liberty Chowk have all been strung with decorative lighting.

With bazaars already reporting heavy footfall from buyers stocking up on flags, badges and buntings, the city is set for its busiest Independence week in years.
