MUMBAI: Team India’s new entrant Faiz Fasal is in England where he got the “good news” of his inclusion in the squad for the tour of Zimbabwe.
Speaking exclusively over his UK mobile, he says, “to be honest; I had not anticipated my inclusion in the side this time. Yes, I was hoping for my turn some few years ago but had only to be disappointed then when not chosen. I, therefore, had stopped hoping and decided only to concentrate on performing”.
Faiz Fasal in England playing North East Premier League for Hetton Lyons Cricket Club.
“I shall speak to my club management here and will return India to join the team.”
The good news was first conveyed to him by his father, Yaqoob Fasal.
“My dad telephoned to me, and I was pleasantly surprised.”
Interestingly, his father was also a cricketer. “He was my coach as well.”
“My grandfather is a doctor, and we are running a medical shop in Nagpur. Instead of joining in my family business, I decided to be a cricketer and my family supported me”, the 30-year-old left-handed opener said. He has also been bowling right-arm medium pace.
Amazing feelings: Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal, the 26-year-old leg break googly bowler was not 100 % sure about his chance.
“I am performing well (in the domestic matches) but had thought selectors might pick me…Once I saw the news on TV and Twitter account, I felt amazing. This is my first maiden call, and I am happy”, Yuzvendra, the son of a lawyer, said over telephone from Bangalore, where he is on an IPL assignment.
Happy, says Jayant Yadav
The 27-year-old googly bowler was at Lucknow (waiting for the flight to Delhi) where he received a call from his father Jaidev Yadav (an Air-India employee).
“I have performed well at domestic level. My performance in Irani Trophy and India “A team has earned me a call. I am very happy and hope to do well”, he said, speaking exclusively.
