Shoaib Akhtar undergoes knee replacement surgery in Australia

MUMBAI: Former Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar underwent knee replacement surgery in Australia. This was confirmed by his surgeon David Young.

Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Australia, Dr. David Young says, “Shoaib underwent knee surgery on Saturday”.

“The operation was successful and he is cheerful. He will be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday”.

Later, speaking from his hospital room, the ex-pace bowler said, “I am recovering well and hope to be fine now”.

This was the second time Shoaib Akhtar had to undergo surgery in Australia.

“That was some ten years ago when he underwent arthroscopic surgery. Recently, Shoaib Akhtar was having terrible pain and we had no choice but to replace the knee”, Dr. Young added.

He is specialist in Sports Injuries, Hip & Knee Surgery.

Dr. Young is popular among sports people and has treated several cricketers all over the world. A good-friend of world’s highest wicket-taker Muthiah Muralitharan, Dr. David Young has been doing lot of charity work in tsunami-affected parts of Sri Lanka.

A keen follower of the game Dr. Young had concern for India’s losses in the current ODI matches against Australia. “Team India did play well but the team was short of luck”, he said referring to the series result.
