LAHORE: The Lahore Arts Council has exhibited 85 artworks produced during its Summer Art Camp, showcasing work by young and emerging artists. Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bukhari inaugurated the exhibition, according to reporting in The Express Tribune published in the week to August 14.
Alhamra was founded in 1948 and is among the oldest and largest cultural bodies in Pakistan. Its history as an exhibiting institution reaches back to 1949, when Khawaja Nazim-ud-Din inaugurated a show of paintings by Abdul Rahman Chughtai.
The complex on The Mall was designed by architect Nayyar Ali Dada and completed in 1992, its red brick bonded with local mortar in deliberate conversation with Lahore Fort and the Badshahi Mosque, and with the sandstone favoured by the Mughals. It won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1998, the jury citing it as a rare example of flexible spaces where successive additions enhanced rather than diminished the original architectural value. The complex comprises an 800-seat auditorium, a 500-seat theatre, an art gallery and a music centre across three wings built on octagonal forms.
The Allah Bux Gallery, named for the eminent South Asian painter, extends across roughly 11,000 square feet. Separately, the Alhamra Modern Art Museum in Gulberg III, adjacent to the Open Air Theatre, is Pakistan’s first museum devoted exclusively to Pakistani modern art of 1945–1990. Its 12,000 square feet hold watercolours by Chughtai, paintings by Allah Bux, sculptures by Novera Ahmed, pastel drawings by Anna Molka and Zainul Abedin’s Bengal landscapes.
In May 2026, Alhamra mounted an exhibition of work from the “Marka-e-Haq” painting competition. Secretary Information and Culture Punjab Tahir Raza Hamdani inaugurated that show and was received by Alhamra Executive Director Muhammad Nawaz Gondal.
The commissioned brief called for artist profiles, an event schedule and visitor reactions. None of that is available in published reporting. Artist names, the exhibition’s run dates and gallery, and any visitor response require a call to Alhamra’s press office or a reporter at the venue. Inventing a featured artist would attach a real person’s name to work and statements that do not exist, and inventing visitor quotes is fabrication regardless of how anodyne the words are.
