‘Encyclopaedia of Tharparkar’ Nawaz Ali Khoso Passes Away

THARPARKAR: Nawaz Ali Khoso, who carried hundreds of stories in his memory about the history, folk wisdom and origins of the Thar desert, the freedom struggle and the area’s resources, has passed away in his native Nagarparkar, at the foot of the Karoonjhar hills.

Nawaz Ali Khoso, popularly known as Chacha Nawaz, was born in Nagarparkar in 1926. He witnessed many historical events, including British rule and the freedom movement. Scholars and researchers who worked on the history of Tharparkar never missed a chance to meet him.

Khoso, 87, received several awards, including for his work in wildlife protection, Best Volunteer of Tharparkar and a lifetime achievement award.

He had been ill for the past two to three years.

Bharu Mal Amrani, Ali Akbar, Ashok Suthar, Khatau Jani, Krishan Sharma, Dileep Doshi, Teerath Janghi, Abbas Khoso and other members of civil society expressed grief over his death.
