Qalandar Lal Shahbaz Urs

HYDERABAD: Despite ban on holding annual Urs of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz at Sewhan town of Sindh and lockdown around shrine, scores of devotees arrived outside Dargah, danced to the tune of Dhamal and tried to perform rituals on Sunday but the officials on duty and caretakers frustrated the attempts of devotees.

Jamshoro police in coordination of Auqaf department has sealed off the area around shrine few days back after Sindh government in view of prevalent pandemic corona has banished the holding of annual Urs of Qalander which was scheduled from 18 to 20 Shoaban. But devotees from all over country arrive 3 to 4 days earlier due to congregation of festival. Few devotees tried to reach close to shrine but were pushed back by police.

SSP Jamshoro Amjad Shaikh told reporters that 12 entry points around shrine were cordoned off to stop movement of people and vehicles. He said about a dozen devotees slipped towards Dargah dodging police and tried to hold Dhamal but were restrained. Many devotees from Punjab and other far flung areas of Pakistan said they were visiting Dargah since last 40 years but this time they were dismayed as were not allowed even to get a glimpse of their Murahid.
