LAHORE: Farmer representatives have called on the Punjab Chief Minister to resign and warned that they will stage a “Million March” on Rawalpindi if their demands are not met.

At the centre of the protest is the accusation that the provincial government has treated agriculture schemes as contracts handed to a favoured few, rather than as programmes designed to support growers across the province. Farm leaders argue that the benefit of publicly funded agriculture projects has not reached the fields.

The threatened march would represent a significant escalation. Punjab’s farm lobby has staged repeated protests over the past year on input costs, support prices and procurement, but a mass mobilisation aimed at Rawalpindi would push the dispute onto a far more visible national stage.

Farm bodies say the sector is under pressure from multiple directions at once — rising input costs, uncertainty over crop pricing, and the after-effects of successive flood seasons on land and yields.

The provincial government has not yet issued a detailed response to the resignation demand.
