LAHORE: A modern day care centre has been inaugurated at Data Darbar Hospital to provide safe, calm and quality care for the children of employees, particularly working women, according to an official statement issued by the Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department Punjab.
Secretary/Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab Dr Ehsan Bhutta, who performed the inauguration, said facilitating the welfare of employees and especially working mothers was the demand of a sensitive and humane approach. He said the establishment of the centre appeared on the surface to be a small administrative step, but in reality reflected a mindset that understands the needs of employees, feels their problems and works to ease them.
Present on the occasion were Director Administration Shakir Sandhu, Deputy Director Admin Azeem Hayat, Administrator Data Darbar Muhammad Ali Khan, Medical Superintendent Data Darbar Hospital Dr Javed Malik, Deputy Medical Superintendents Dr Talat Bhatti, Dr Rumana Rehan and Dr Mubashir ul Hassan, eye surgeon Dr Rashid Iqbal, gynaecologist Dr Sadia Ghaffar, Dr Tehreem Salman, radiologist Dr Humaira Jabeen and paediatrician Dr Adnan Hashmi.
Dr Ehsan Bhutta offered special thanks to Secretary Women Development Department Saman Rai and her team, whose cooperation, assistance and facilitation made the initiative possible. He described the department’s support as commendable and an excellent example of inter-institutional collaboration for the welfare of employees, particularly working mothers.
Leaving children in a secure environment and performing duties with peace of mind, he said, would prove to be a significant convenience for working mothers. Data Darbar Hospital, alongside providing quality medical facilities to the public, was working to create an enabling environment for its own doctors, paramedical staff and other employees.
He linked the step to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s broader “Magnificent Punjab” vision of better, safer and more humane environments for both patients and employees, adding that measures to improve public facilities and the performance of government institutions were continuing under the supervision of Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman.
Dr Bhutta said Data Darbar Hospital, administered by the Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department Punjab, is a significant welfare and medical institution providing free or very low-cost treatment to low-income, indigent and poor patients.
The long-closed general medical ward has been made functional again and a modern gynaecology ward established for women. More than a hundred patients are examined daily in the OPD and emergency, where basic treatment and medicines are provided, while the diagnostic laboratory offers basic blood tests and other essential diagnostic facilities. Work is under way to equip the hospital with modern medical equipment and improved infrastructure so that poor citizens are not forced to turn to larger hospitals for costly treatment.
Medical Superintendent Dr Javed Malik said multiple measures were being taken at the hospital — in facilities, administrative order, upkeep of the environment, patient convenience and staff welfare — as a result of Dr Ehsan Bhutta’s personal interest and continuous supervision, and that the day care centre was another link in the same chain of service.
The step, he said, was a practical expression of the reality that institutions are not built from buildings and machinery alone but from their people, and that leadership which thinks about the convenience, dignity and welfare of its people is what makes an institution genuinely strong and effective.
