UMERKOT: Speakers at a seminar here on Wednesday said humanity had lost its dignity with the introduction of new and innovative weapons for destroying one another.
The seminar was organised by Right To Play, an international non-governmental organisation, under the aegis of UNICEF to mark Global Dignity Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Umerkot Deputy Commissioner Nadeem-ul-Rehman Memon said the concept of dignity was based on mutual respect among human beings and could not be achieved without honesty. He added that human beings had been created with honour and dignity.
Noted social activist Juman Darbadar said today’s world was under threat from modern weapons, as people searched for new ways to destroy each other. “We should all think about human existence,” he said, adding that greed and fear were the main causes of inhumanity.
Right To Play District Coordinator Abdul Haleem Soomro said everyone needed to strengthen tolerance, which was fading from society. Dignity, he said, was a process of coming closer, reconciling and returning love to promote peace and coexistence in every setting.
He stressed the need to promote tolerance, peace and equality in society to prevent inhumanity.
Religious scholar Abdul Rehman Jamali said every religion honoured human beings regardless of their social status or culture, and that other barriers had been created by extremist mindsets. He said Islam taught love, peace and tolerance towards all people regardless of caste, colour or creed.
Members of civil society organisations, government officials, students and women attended the event.
