Dignity Day Marked in Thatta

THATTA: Speakers at a seminar here have stressed the need to promote interfaith harmony to root out intolerance from society.

The seminar was organised by Right To Play, an international humanitarian organisation, with sponsorship from the Norwegian Embassy, to mark Global Dignity Day.

“Intolerance, inequality and insensitivity are the main reasons behind violations of human dignity, and there is a dire need to promote interfaith harmony on a mutual basis to achieve peace and pluralism in society,” said Thatta Additional Deputy Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmed.

Right To Play Project Coordinator Atta Mohammad Soomro said the vision of Global Dignity Day was to encourage dignity-centred leadership and to engage young people in discussion about the meaning and significance of dignity.

Moula Bux Umrani, Manager of Church World Service Thatta, said Islam also taught the lesson of dignity, and that it was everyone’s obligation to foster mutual respect without any discrimination.

Hazoor Bux, Fouzia Panhwar, Rehana Shafat Naz and Murtaza Talpur also spoke on the importance of the day.

People from different segments of society, including children, parents and members of civil society organisations, attended the event.
