Srinivasan’s presence for the BCCI’s Sunday SGM is kept suspense
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) will announce its decision whether N. Srinivasan would arrive for the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) (for casting his vote, if the election is to take place) on Sunday, only on October 3, at 4.00 PM. This was revealed by Kashi Vishwanathan, the TNCA’s Honorary Secretary.
“We have received the invitation this morning and we are in no hurry to speculate on our President’s presence for the meeting. Not before Saturday, the media would know”, he said over telephone from Chennai.
“The decision will be discussed among the members of the Executive Committee of our association. If all executive members can’t assemble at one time there can be a circular resolution which will decide our nominee “, he further added.
The path, even if Srini decides to attend the meeting, will not be easy.
“The chairman of the SGM has to decide whether Srini can attend the meeting”, Shashank Manohar, the former BCCI president and an eminent lawyer said from Nagpur.
“The house will select among one of the five presidents to chair the SGM on Sunday and he has the authority to allow or disallow the presence of any member. It is not necessary that the vice president for chairing the meeting be from East Zone”, Manohar added.
The five vice-presidents of the BCCI are : Gautam Roy (East Zone), T.C.Mathew (West), C.K.Khanna (Central), M.L.Nehru (North) and G.Ganga Raju (South).
Srini group will not field any candidate for the BCCI president post. “No way we are posting our candidate for the post. Will decide whether to support or oppose the candidate once we know about his identity. We don’t rely on media reports”, the source from the Srini group said. Media has widely reported on Shashank Manohar’s candidature.
