RAWALPINDI: A fresh investigation into the death of Hina Javed in Rawalpindi has named a domestic worker as the prime suspect, but a forensic summary that also matched her husband’s DNA and fingerprints has left her family convinced the case is being steered away from him.

Hina Javed, 45, was found dead in the bathroom of her home in Lal Kurti on Aug 21. A post-mortem found a fractured neck bone, rib and hip injuries and blood around the heart, reports said.

A team of the Punjab Crime Control Department led by Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha took over the case on the chief minister’s orders. Investigators have named domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad as the prime suspect, saying his skin cells were found under her fingernails, and sources have claimed he confessed. Police have not confirmed the confession on record.

The same DNA summary reportedly matched husband Faisal Asghar’s DNA at four locations and found his fingerprints on her neck, clothing, a door handle and the sheet allegedly used in the killing. Her father-in-law has also been named in the case. Investigators have reportedly cited the husband’s medical condition in their assessment.

Her brother, Fahad Javed, says the family has no confidence in the investigation and accuses police of trying to shift all blame onto the domestic worker. The family has demanded a judicial commission and says it will file a private complaint if needed. The CCD team has assured them of an impartial probe.

The final report will go to court once outstanding forensic results arrive. Forensic matches alone do not establish guilt, which will be for the court to decide.
