Demand for Justice to Gang-Rape Victim in Tharparkar

UMERKOT: Members of victim family along with civil society members and political party’s workers staged three-hour protest in Mithi and Chacharo condemned the gang-rape of a woman of Bheel community and demanded early arrest of the accused.

Five days back in a shocking incident a married woman Motan Bheel was gang-raped by 5 people near village Baprario of Chachro, Tharparkar in front of her husband and children.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) prepared by Chachro police, the woman was beaten and then kidnapped with her husband by five men. The kidnappers reportedly took her to another location where she was gang-raped by five men, one of whom was named in the FIR.

According to her family, the victim was travelling with her husband and children to Umerkot when five armed men intercepted them. They kidnapped the family and shifted them to a different place where Motaan was allegedly raped for four-five hours by five men.

Victim family blame elected PPP representative that the legislator is hindering the process of justice and supporting to accused culprits.

“PPP MNA is trying to save Kalu, Hero and three others who are nominated in the FIR,” said the woman’s husband Tilu.

He further told the media that medical report has been also changed by doctors as they got directions to save the accused.

PPP MNA also denied the family’s accusation that he was protecting the suspects.

Speaking to the media and civil society members the victim Motaan stated that she will immolate herself if the police failed to provide her justice.

The Woman Action Forum (WAF) has expressed its deep concern over the gang-rape of minority woman Motaan Bheel in Tharparkar. Amar Sindhu, a social activist and well know writer also met with victim family at Chachro and assured their support.
