ECP terms ‘Kisan Package’ as violation of code of conduct

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday termed the recently-announced “Kisan Package” of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as a violation of code of conduct.

ECP ruled that no package could be announced once the schedule for local body elections was announced.

The verdict was written by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan and other members. The commission has stopped the implementation of package till Dec 3.

It, however, allowed the government to provide incentives that were part of the federal budget. Those incentives, which were not part of the budget, should be immediately stopped, it ordered.

Meanwhile, senior PTI leader Asad Umar welcomed the ECP’s decision on Kisan Package. “It was an open violation of the code of conduct,” he added.

Opposition parties, including PPP and PTI, had strongly denounced the package as violation of the ECP’s code of conduct.
