Hunan Ava Dairy Co recalling infant formula after aflatoxins found
Chinese dairy processor Hunan Ava Dairy Co is recalling five batches of infant formula after a local government investigation discovered high levels of cancer-causing aflatoxins.
In the southern-Chinese city of Guangzhou, officials found extremely high levels of the naturally-occurring toxin in five formula products produced between July 2011 and December 2011 under the brand Times Hui and Gold Times Hui.
Four of these products were produced by Ava Dairy Co whilst the fifth was manufactured by Hunan Ava Dairy.
The recalls were put into action after a report by the Guangzhou City Administration was published detailing a Q2 2012 sample of dairy and milk products in the city.
The authorities took samples from 610 batches of infant formula during the food sampling, of which only six failed, including the five Hunan Ava Dairy products.
Retailers have been told not to sell these products anymore whilst the manufacturers remove the possible contaminated products from shelves.
